Megan and Marissa felt a powerful synergy from the very first time they met at a holiday party in 2019. Marissa is a lifelong educator with a passion for the natural world. Megan is an experienced regenerative farmer looking to touch others with her knowledge. Little did they know that from that holiday party, their love for each other would lead them to a backyard wedding at their home in Lambertville, NJ - and that their shared passions would become a shared dream: to steward a regenerative, educational farm together.
They spent the pandemic growing together, and imagining all the ways they could achieve their dream. In 2021, the property search for the farm began. A traditional home was not an option for the farmer and her educator wife, so their first investment was in a beautiful, cozy tiny home. Their off-grid vision was too ambitious for most conventional lots, but they eventually found their place at Hundred Fruit Farm when Megan was offered a full-time position as farm manager.
For the next three years, they settled into tiny home living. Nestled in the orchard, they worked hard, lived simply, and enjoyed their many visitors: from humans to sheep, poultry, cats, and dogs. All the while, their farm dream expanded. It would include an educational space, abundant perennial crops, and be a home for multiple generations to come together. Moved to action by this vision, Megan's parents joined the search! Her father, an Air Force and Navy veteran and safety director, and her step-mother, a geologist and educator, only added more life, more enthusiasm, and more depth to the dream.
After years of searching, in spring of 2024 Megan and Marissa finally found what they had been looking for all this time: a parcel of land along the Delaware River that had been stewarded with regeneration in mind. Abundant stands of sassafras, pawpaws, and black walnuts; native flowers and plants; sandy, loamy, slightly acidic soils perfect for willow - what more could they want? Papers were signed, hands were shaken, and on August 1st 2024, Lower Neshanic Community Farm was born! It was the realization of a dream years in the making, accomplished with the help of many members of Megan and Marissa's community.
There is a lot of work to do to turn this land into the regenerative, educational, community farm that it can be. LNCF is only in its first of many developmental phases, each of which is to be carried out while revitalizing local ecosystems. We are always looking to connect with community members and love teaching volunteers here on the farm. Contact Us in order to join our mission and become part of our story.
